In American minor league baseball, I’ve seen hot dog eating contests and pie eating contests. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sushi eating contest at a baseball game, but I could be wrong.
But I definitely haven’t seen a sushi eating contest involving massive amounts of wasabi, which is apparently what is shown here during an Australian Baseball League game. It’s difficult to gauge how much of the discomfort is wasabi-induced, as opposed to, say, simply shoveling large amounts of raw fish into their faces during the time it takes to throw eight warmup pitches, but this does not look like a pleasant experience. Nor is it the correct way to eat sushi.
